Areas of North Georgia, including parts of Fulton County, got 3 to 5 inches of rain between Friday and Saturday, the National Weather Service said.
Saturday storms that began during daybreak continued into the afternoon and are predicted to taper off completely around 8 p.m. Even with mostly overcast skies, highs reached the mid-80s by the afternoon in Atlanta. The feels-like temperature topped off at 94 degrees around 3 p.m.
From Carroll County, west of Atlanta, to Fulton and DeKalb counties, the Weather Service said radar estimates revealed up to 5 inches of rain shortly before 3 p.m. In the city of Villa Rica, nearly 8 inches of rain fell in the last 24 hours.
Parts of Fulton, Cobb and DeKalb counties were under a flash flood warning through the morning hours Saturday. Nickajack Creek near Mableton was also under a flood warning in the early afternoon.
Flash flood concerns were heightened Saturday because as much as 5 inches of rain was recorded the day before in some areas, the NWS said. Though severe weather was not anticipated, downed trees were possible in areas experiencing normal wind gusts because of saturated soils from Friday’s rainfall.
According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, downpours during the flash flood warning impacted parts of I-285 on the northern side of the Perimeter and a couple of lanes of I-75 North near Moores Mill Road.
Patchy fog and low-lying clouds are possible early Sunday morning in areas that saw heavy rain Saturday, the NWS warned.
The Weather Service expects Sunday afternoon showers to be confined to south central Georgia, though the chances there are low for rain. In the metro area, drier conditions return Sunday and highs are expected to reach the high 80s and low 90s.

Some Saturday events were postponed or canceled because of the weather.
The city of Atlanta and the Atlanta Urban Development Corporation were planning to host a community celebration at Quarry Yards in the Grove Park neighborhood. A spokesperson for the city confirmed with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution the event will be postponed and they’ll look to reschedule it.
In Chamblee, a portion of the 5th annual Chalk Walk and Artist Market has been canceled. City spokesperson Shannon Wiggins said in an email that the artist market is off, and the chalk walk will start later when the rain clears.
