A Republican with a storied political pedigree and the endorsement of President Donald Trump will face a Democratic community organizer in Georgia’s 1st Congressional District.

Jim Kingston, the son of former U.S. Rep. Jack Kingston, won the GOP primary in April. Amanda Hollowell claimed the Democratic nod in a June runoff.

The pair emerged from a 14-person primary field to replace six-term incumbent Buddy Carter, who made an unsuccessful bid for a U.S. Senate seat instead of seeking another term.

The Coastal Georgia district is solidly Republican, meaning Kingston is a general election favorite. Carter won reelection in 2024 with 62% of the vote.

Here are the candidates:

Kingston benefits from a trifecta of name recognition, a sizable edge in fundraising and Trump’s endorsement.

His father held this seat for more than 20 years, making his family name ubiquitous in the region. The younger Kingston is an insurance executive who lives in Savannah.
