Report: Matt Ryan set to interview Thursday or Friday

Former Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan, who has no front office experience, is set to interview Thursday or Friday for the team's new president of football, according to NFL Media.

The Falcons are set to hire for the new president position, according to a letter sent to the team’s fans by owner Arthur Blank on Monday morning.

The team fired general manager Terry Fontenot and coach Raheem Morris on Sunday just hours after completing a season with an 8-9 record and finishing tied for first place in the NFC South.

It was the franchise’s eighth consecutive losing season. The Falcons have not been to the playoffs since 2017.

“We will be adding a new president of football from outside the organization,” Blank wrote in the letter that also was sent to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “The leader in this new role will set the vision and identity for our team. Our new head coach and general manager will report to the new president of football.”

The Falcons will have to comply with the NFL's Rooney Rule requirements for interviewing minority candidates.

Currently, Ryan is a broadcaster with CBS. He was the Falcons' starting quaterback from 2008-21, starting 222 games for the team.
