Despite 16 points from both Frankquon Sherman and Braedan Lue, Kennesaw State dropped its final game of the regular season, falling on the road at New Mexico State on Saturday, 79-76.
Sherman also had nine rebounds for the Owls (18-13, 10-10 Conference USA), while Lue added six rebounds and three blocks. Amir Taylor totaled 12 points and seven rebounds.
A tight game throughout, with neither team leading by more than seven points, the Owls built a 53-46 advantage with 13:42 to play in the second half.
But the Aggies rallied by outscoring the Owls 15-6 over the next six minutes to regain the lead, 61-59. They would never trail the rest of the game.
Jemel Jones had 19 points and 12 rebounds for New Mexico State, which gained some revenge after losing by 23 points to Kennesaw State at the end of January.
Jayland Randall added 16 points and five rebounds for the Aggies (15-15, 8-12). Julius Mims scored 11.
Jones scored 11 points in the first half for New Mexico State, which led 37-33 at halftime. The Aggies used an 11-2 second-half run to take a 63-59 lead with 6:22 remaining. Randall scored 14 after the break.
The conference tournament begins on Tuesday.
