WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Braves outfielder Michael Harris II became the answer to a trivia question Sunday evening.
Harris launched the Braves’ first homer in a Little League Classic in the ninth inning of their 4-2 win over the Brewers. He now holds that distinctive honor, similar to how former utilityman Eli White became the first to homer in the MLB Speedway Classic a year ago.
“It’s always cool to be the first to do something,” Harris said afterwards. “Well, I guess not always – but it was cool to be the first Brave to do it.”
It capped quite a day for Harris, who joined his teammates in visiting with Little Leaguers at nearby Lamade Stadium for around 90 minutes earlier in the afternoon. This is one of MLB’s marquee events as an opportunity for future generations to interact with current major leaguers. The host stadium holds around 2,300 fans.
This was the Braves’ first appearance in the Little League Classic, which has been played annually since 2017.
The homer was Harris’ 21st, setting a career high. It helped the Braves to an important win that closed a four-city road trip in which the club went 2-5.
But at least they finished on a positive note. And Harris provided the exclamation point.
