THOMASVILLE — Blue-chip prospects and unranked recruits alike stood out in Thomas County Central’s 57-21 win over Colquitt County Friday night.
Thomas County Central, which has one of the most talented rosters in the state, saw players with 5-star ratings and players without any stars make highlight plays in the season opener. Colquitt County also had a pair of standout players to build around as it looks to bounce back next week.
AJC Varsity asked both coaches and several players to recommend top performers from Friday night. Here are 10 standouts from Thomas County Central’s statement win.
3-star QB Aidan McPherson, Thomas County Central, 2027
Considering the stakes, opponent and statistical output, it’s likely that no single player in Georgia delivered a bigger performance than McPherson did Friday night. The Duke commit delivered seven total touchdowns (six rushing and one passing) and over 350 yards of total offense.
“The thing with Aidan is, at any moment, he may house it. He may take it off,” Thomas County Central coach Justin Rogers said. “I really think, you know, that third quarter drive was big: 12 plays, took it down to six minutes and really just iced it out.”
3-star DL Isaac Andrews, Thomas County Central, 2027
Andrews was one of several Thomas County Central defensive linemen that picked apart a young Colquitt County offensive line.
The Kennesaw State commitment kept transfer quarterback Khi Mitchell off balance as a pass rusher and collapsed on the Packers’ run game throughout the night.
5-star DL Prince Che, Thomas County Central, 2028
Perhaps no player stood out more pregame than Che, an elite defensive tackle standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 305 pounds, per 247Sports. Che was vital to stopping Colquitt County’s ground game, which totaled roughly 60 yards on 27 rushing attempts.
Che faced double teams throughout the night but still made his presence known with several tackles.
3-star WR Antwan Lockett, Colquitt County, 2027
Lockett was one of the lone bright spots for Colquitt County’s offense. The Georgia Tech commitment was Mitchell’s favorite target throughout the night, using elite speed to get behind defenders and find soft spots in coverage.
Lockett also had the Packers’ only receiving touchdown of the night.
4-star WR Jabari Watkins, Thomas County Central, 2027
Thomas County Central scored most of its points on the ground, but several receivers still delivered standout performances. Watkins used his 6-foot-2, 185-pound frame to outmuscle defenders.
Perhaps Watkins’ best play came on the Yellow Jackets’ second drive. The Arkansas commitment adjusted to an underthrown deep ball, boxed out the defender covering him and snagged a 45-yard catch to set up McPherson’s second touchdown.
Unranked ATH Gary Pringle Jr., Thomas County Central, 2028
Pringle has played on both sides of the ball throughout his career at Thomas County Central, but he best showed his athleticism on offense Friday night.
The junior burned Colquitt County’s secondary and snagged a 33-yard touchdown catch over his shoulder. It was the Yellow Jackets’ only receiving touchdown of the game.
3-star DL Isaiah Andrews, Thomas County Central, 2027
Andrews dominated the backfield with Che and his twin brother, Isaac Andrews. The Georgia State commitment started the game by running down a scrambling Mitchell on third down and never let up.
The Andrews brothers, No. 11 and No. 12 on the team, are Thomas County Central’s top two edge defenders on the defensive line.
Unranked DL Ty’Mhyr Moore, Colquitt County, 2027
Moore was one of two players that Colquitt County coach Sean Calhoun named as a standout. The senior applied pressure from his edge rusher position throughout the night and anchored Colquitt County’s defensive front.
Unranked DB Kobe Carnage, Thomas County Central, 2027
Carnage stood out to Rogers for the most simple of reasons: tackling. The defensive MVP of the 2025 state championship was strong in run defense and helped hold Colquitt County to 207 yards passing on 26 pass attempts.
Unranked WR DJ White, Thomas County Central, 2028
White’s elite speed and fast-twitch agility were on display on several quick-hit passes. The junior broke several tackles in open space on bubble screens, and appears to pair well with the physical Watkins in Thomas County Central’s receiving corps.
