The city of Atlanta has found a way around “technical difficulties” that disrupted its 911 services Monday evening, officials said.
Atlanta police confirmed shortly before 10 p.m. that calls are being handled by the city’s 911 personnel at the Fulton County Emergency Communications Center. It’s on Peachtree Street in downtown Atlanta next door to the county courthouse.
The update came about an hour after the police department said issues had impacted the city 911 center’s ability to receive and dispatch emergency calls. Details on what exactly caused the problem were not immediately released. Police officials first reported the issue shortly before 9 p.m. and then said city operators were in place at the county center as of 9:30 p.m.
Before the update, Atlanta police, in a statement, advised anyone with an emergency “to proceed to their nearest hospital, police precinct, or fire station for assistance.”
Police also alerted the public to the 911 issue by posting to the department’s social media accounts.
Atlanta police did not immediately answer questions about whether the technical problems had been resolved or how long Atlanta 911 calls would be handled at the county’s emergency communications center.
